There have been advances in surgical techniques, radiation technology, and chemotherapy to treat brain tumor patients, improving life expectancy. But despite these advances, we need to continue to push for even more effective treatments.
Funds donated to Brains Together go toward grants at Mayo Clinic to fund brain tumor research.
Progress
Since the organization began in 2007, Brains Together has donated $1.4 million to Mayo Clinic toward brain tumor research.
"Pediatric brain cancer is the leading cause of cancer related death in children. These children have their whole lives in front of them and are suddenly fighting for their lives. The two most common types of malignant brain tumors in children are medulloblastoma and high grade gliomas. Through research efforts we have done well treating medulloblastoma and now have favorable 5 year survival rates. Unfortunately, this is not the case for high grade gliomas. More research is needed for us to improve the outcomes for this devastating disease. It’s time we offer hope for these children and their families."
Our organization is actively exploring the diverse origins of our donations, seeking to understand the varied sources and locations of our generous supporters.
